BEST BOOKS EVER!!

Children of the Paper Crane by Masamoto Nasu – Definitely my favorite book of all-time about a girl named Sadako and her love of life. I’ve read this book SO many times!! It reminds us that we should all live life to the fullest. This is the first book that ever made me cry!

Grandfather’s Journey by Allen Say – A book beautifully illustrated about a man’s journey from Japan to the United States. I read this book all the time when I was little and this book helped me to understand and to love both my Japanese and my American heritage.

A Jar of Dreams by Yoshiko Uchida – One of my favorite books when I was in middle school. I like it because it teaches people to follow their dreams and be proud of whom they really are.

Veil of Roses by Laura Fitzgerald – A book about an Iranian woman adjusting to life in the United States. It taught me about the restrictions Iranian women have as opposed to American women. It also reminded me not to take for granted what I have. It taught me about how sometimes you can find happiness where you least expect it.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini – A sad yet incredibly written book that teaches how consequences can really effect our lives and how we should be conscious that our actions indeed have consequences.

Eloise At the Plaza by Kay Thompson – The best book I read when I was in lower school!! I used to read this book every day and imagine myself living at the Plaza running around and having fun like Eloise! Such a good book!

Twilight  by Stephenie Meyer – I know this is pretty cliché, but I must admit that at the time when I read Twilight I had not enjoyed a book like that in a while! I became very into it and would read whenever I got a chance. This book definitely keep me wanting more until the end and I have read it probably three times now.

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway – I liked this book because it takes places abroad in one place that I love (France) and one place that I would love to go, but haven’t been yet (Spain). It combines French, American, and Spanish culture all in one and I love all three of these cultures! Also, the character Brett is one of my favorite characters of all-time because she is very entertaining to read about!

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck – A short story, but definitely one with an extremely powerful message. I especially liked the friendship between Lennie and George – they are very close, almost like brothers and it is tragic when they are forced apart.

The Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank – This was such a sad book! I read it in 8th grade and remember how vividly Anne Frank wrote and I could feel her pain and her thoughts.

  1. Lexi, your list tells me quite a bit about you. You like stories that move you, that connect to your own background, or that you can learn from and be inspired by. I think those are all great reasons to read and remember certain books and characters. Also, the top half of your list contains several titles I'm not familiar with, so I feel as though I learned something by reading your notes. Thanks.
